Year 2050
a.b.g. is a human living.
They work a daily grind as a freelance visual design consultant. Sick of screen-based work and screen-based play, they decide to take up gardening, to get back in touch with the natural world. They get good at this and grow a variety of edible plants.
In the summer of 2050, they grow a humble crop of black beans. Ten or so plants in a row, each offering fifty obsidian gems of bundled protein and carbohydrates. Not enough for a full meal, but a vision of the possible. They think how nice it would be to provide their community with a full supply of locally-grown black beans at an affordable price.
